Program Introduction
Marriage migration in Asia has been rapidly expanding for last decades. Marriage migration issue, however, has been marginalized in migration issue and largely explained as part of female migrant labour issues. In order to address complex problems and issues around marriage-migrant women such as marriage brokerage, domestic violence and need of alternative citizenship, we need to build a regional cooperation that will generate attention and measures deep and comprehensive enough.
As the matter is a regional and international, as well as domestic phenomenon, actions through regional cooperation may prove effective and crucial in supporting domestic groups in addressing relevant issues. This programme aims at providing platform to develop regional network of migrant women and activists in sending and receiving countries through two ARENA Regional Schools and joint participatory action research of the situation, and organizing international forums.
